ENGLAND rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio made the draw for the 56th John Smith's Good Friday Pock 7s.

The 2003 World Cup winner picked the names out of the hat as Pocklington RUFC gets set to again stage Yorkshire’s oldest and biggest rugby seven-a-side tournament at Percy Road on April 18.

The event has been held at Pocklington every Good Friday since 1959, and has grown from humble beginnings into one of Yorkshire's major rugby occasions, with many local exiles making their way back home for an annual Easter reunion.

This year’s tournament has a mixture of local club and invitation teams battling it out in the main competition and plate, with a strong entry from North and East Yorkshire, including sides from York, Malton & Norton, Selby and the hosts as well as a seven from Heworth ARLFC.

Seven former winners are taking part, including the current holders of the Fowler Trophy, Bishop Burton College. A couple of cancellations, however, means there are a couple of spaces left for last minute entrants.

Dallaglio is the sixth England World Cup winning player to make the draw. It took place at BT Sports studios at the Olympic Park,in London, and afterwards former Pocklington player Harry Allen, now a BT Sport producer, interviewed Dallaglio about his love of sevens rugby and memories of first playing sevens for Ampleforth College at Pocklington.

The action at Percy Road gets underway before the sevens as Pocklington Colts play Darlington in a 15-a-side game at 11.45 am. The first game of the Pock 7s is at 1pm.

More than six hours of non-stop sevens rugby follows with the final scheduled for 6.40pm.

The club has announced it will be bringing in increased stewarding for the event, which will include age verified wristbands. In line with Sport England guidelines. Dogs are not permitted on site on the day.
