IN-FORM York RI RUFC were stopped in their tracks by promotion-chasing Stocksbridge in Yorkshire Four.

The New Lane hosts, looking for their sixth win in seven league outings, turned in a spirited display but lost out 24-8.

Stocksbridge missed an early penalty kick in front of the posts due to the strong winds, but the visitors recovered to score an unconverted try after some poor RI tackling following a maul.

An RI penalty by Baptiste Briu brought the score to 5-3.

Just before the break, the strong Stocksbridge pack drove a rolling maul over the line for a 10-3 half-time lead.

From the restart, powerhouse RI prop Christophe Evrat scattered would be tacklers to get close to the line and, from the ruck, Ewan Metcalfe crashed over.

Stocksbridge gradually got back on top and pressure on an RI scrum close to the line led to a converted penalty try.

With 15 minutes remaining, the visitors broke clear down the left for a converted fourth try for a flattering final scoreline.
