A SECOND-HALF fightback saw Selby RUFC surge into the Yorkshire Shield semi-finals after a 34-24 derby victory over York.
Under the floodlights at Clifton Park, the Swans trailed 17-0 at one point in the first half but a try on the stroke of half-time gave them hope.
As York started to tire in the second period, head coach Richard Nicholson said his men were able to spread the ball wide and grind their way to victory.
“We were pretty poor in the first half but played well in the second,” he said.
“York put us under quite a lot of pressure. We had a chat at half-time, changed a couple of things, and got some width.
“It is pleasing to win. It would have been very easy for us to have just folded. York were dominating but the lads regrouped, dug in and came back.”
Selby will now meet either Scarborough or Guisborough.
