SELBY RUFC renew rivalries with Doncaster Phoenix at Sandhill Lane tomorrow (2.15pm) and coach Richard Nicholson is expecting a tough test.

The two sides were promoted together from Yorkshire Two in last season and, while the Swans have consolidated in mid-table, Phoenix are setting the pace at the top.

Nicholson said: “It is always a good game against them. We have a good relationship with them, but there is a rivalry as well.

“It will be tough. They recruited well in the summer, getting guys from a higher level, and they are doing well.

“They are strong and we will have to be at our best.”

Sam Weller is back in the centres for Selby, while skipper Duncan Hardy returns to add steel to the pack.

“It is good to get a couple of players back to strengthen us,” said Nicholson. “It gives us more depth.”

The Swans coach is still lamenting last weekend’s 31-27 defeat at Dinnington.

Selby dragged themselves back into the match from 25-6 behind, but were unable to snatch a late winning score.

Nicholson said: “If we had played another five minutes we could have nicked it because they were tiring. That is one of the main differences to last season. We were winning those sorts of games last year but, in this division, teams are able to hang on.”

Fifth-placed York are looking for back-to-back Clifton Park victories when they host Bridlington tomorrow (2.15pm).

Last weekend’s 27-22 win over Scarborough lifted York to fifth in the Yorkshire One table.

Meanwhile, York RI travel to third-from-bottom Mosborough aiming to move further away from the Yorkshire Four relegation scrap after last weekend’s 20-19 victory over Halifax Vandals.
