Malton & Norton go on the offensive in 50-point drubbing
10:04am Monday 18th February 2013 in Rugby Union
The Ryedale side followed up their 62-26 victory at basement side Durham City by dismissing second from bottom Darlington 53-12 at The Gannock.
Malton led 12-0 after only three minutes following tries for centre Ryan Lonsdale and full-back Tom Newitt, with Ian Cooke kicking a conversion.
Winger Kenton Leiataua then went in beneath the posts and Cooke converted, and the Kiwi repeated the dose on 30 minutes.
Henry Newitt’s try, converted by Cooke, made it 31-0 before Durham clawed back a try.
Lonsdale got his second after the break, and there were also tries for flanker George Harrison, Tom Newitt and second row Jamie Rounthwaite, with the final score converted by James Bulmer.
Meanwhile, Pocklington gained a hard earned 18-13 win over visitors Northern, taking the result with the only score of the second half after the sides had been all-square at the break.
Pock gifted Northern a converted try after five minutes from an interception, but the hosts fought back with two penalties from scrum-half Jack Fletcher.
Northern pulled away again with two penalties, but Pock made it 13-13 late in the first half as wing Billy Hardy dived over in the corner and Fletcher converted.
Pock’s catch and drive enabled them to turn up the pressure and laid the platform for centre Jack Holbrough to blast under the posts.
