Selby RUFC face West Park Leeds in Yorkshire Two

Selby RUFC have a full squad at their disposal as they look to get back to winning ways against mid-table West Park Leeds, writes Jamie Presland.

The Swans’ 100 per cent record in Yorkshire Two was finally ended last weekend as they lost a tight game 17-16 to second-placed West Leeds.

Selby led for most of the match but poor discipline cost them as a penalty ten minutes from time sealed the points for West Leeds.

The defeat cuts Selby’s lead at the top to just three points.

Coach Richard Nicholson said: “We were disappointed to lose our 100 per cent record but we knew it had to go at some point. The players are determined to put it right.

“It’s vitally important that we respond to last week.

“Moving forward, we are intent on bouncing back together.”

York RI travel to Hemsworth in Yorkshire Three looking to recover from a chastening 32-2 home defeat to Old Modernians.

The result leaves RI second from bottom of the table with just five points from eight games.

RI secured their first win of the campaign this month with a hard-fought 13-12 victory over Rotherham Phoenix but heavy defeats to Old Rishworthians and Old Modernians have seen any momentum halted.

Coach Dan Coates said: “Every game is winnable but we have had a tough time recently getting a team together every week.

“We haven’t really had a settled team and I’m not sure at the moment what the team is going to be for this match.

“We will get together at training and discuss the match then.”
