York RI’s lose out to Burley

YORK RI turned in their best performance of the Yorkshire Three campaign as they went down 20-16 at home to Burley.

The New Lane hosts took a 3-0 lead when Rossa Keaton landed a third-minute penalty.

However, Burley scored two unconverted tries to lead 10-3 at the interval.

Keaton added a second penalty to close the gap to 10-6, only for Burley to score a converted try shortly afterwards to lead 17-6.

Andy Brentnall picked up a loose ball to sprint the length of the pitch for a sublime RI try in the corner to close to 17-11.

A fired-up RI added another try through Christopher Corr to set up a thrilling finish at 17-16, but Burley had the last word with a penalty to run out 20-16 winners.

The result gained RI a bonus point.
