Selby Warriors Paul Berriman signs off in style

PAUL BERRIMAN signed off in style as Selby Warriors ‘A’ confirmed their promotion as runners-up in Pennine League division seven with an emphatic 34-0 win at Farnley Falcons.

It was Selby ‘A’ last game of the winter season, and for half-back Berriman it was the last of his career – unless, as the club wishes, he decides to reconsider his decision to hang up his boots.

The second string were boosted by the appearance of first-team captain Wayne Fennel and man-of-the-match Gavyn Lightowler.

As soon as Selby gave the ball some air, getting it away from a midfield dogfight, they ran the home side ragged.

Tries came from Lightowler, full-back Ben Harris, winger David Makin, with a 50-yarder, Fennel, Simon Baxter and Arron Sharp, Berriman’s craft having taken centre stage after half-time, not least when creating two tries. Nick Weaver added the goals.
