End of season awards at York Ladies Rugby League Club

Mary Tiplady and Katie Langan were the big winners when the gongs were shared out at York Ladies Rugby League Club’s end-of-season presentation night.

Tiplady and Langan were joint-Women of Steel winners and shared the Players’ Player of the Year vote.

The Coaches’ Player of the Year was Emilie Hatfield, while the Impact Player of the Year was Kay Rollinson, who was also top points-scorer. The Most Improved Player award went to Kim Robinson, while the joint-top try-scorers were Teri Chu and Bev Langan with ten apiece.

As reported by The Press, York won the Women’s Amateur Rugby League Association Challenge Cup Plate in their last match of term with a 54-4 win over Huddersfield, after finishing fourth in the league.

That league campaign had begun with a 26-26 draw with Stanningley in a tight encounter last autumn before York recorded victories over Guiseley, 54-10, and Batley, 38-0. They then lost 38-22 to Halton and fell 40-0 to Castleford in the first round of the Challenge Cup to drop into the Plate.

But they bounced back by defeating Stanningley 20-18 with a superb team performance and then seeing off Guiseley 50-0 in the league and 48-0 in the Plate semi-final. They also won 30-4 at Batley. Defeats to Cas, 36-6, and Littleborough, 18-14, followed before York beat Huddersfield 22-4 to confirm fourth place.
