York Acorn open up with Dockers win

York Acorn ARLC ‘A’ got their Yorkshire Men’s League summer campaign off to a flying start with a 26-16 victory over Hull Dockers ‘A’.

Ben Cooper intercepted on eight minutes to set the Blue and Golds on their way. Thomas Mackley added the extras.

Acorn’s other points came from tries by Mark Sanderson (2), Thomas Mackley and Alan Willetts, plus goals from Mackley and Callum Hannigan.

For Dockers, Daniel Brewer, Mike Jarvis and James Carrick scored tries, while Richard Robinson kicked two goals.

Chris Rushworth was man of the match, and he was well supported by Nick Speck and Steve Doswell.

Sherburn Bears went second in Pennine League division six after winning 80-16 at home to Wyke ‘A’ in their last game.

The Bears could be overtaken by Hanging Heaton, who have three games remaining.

Selby Warriors ‘A’ lost 22-18 at division seven champions Thornhill Trojans ‘A’ but they are guaranteed second place with one game left.
