St Joseph’s to threaten New Earswick All Black’s Pennine League safety

New Earswick All Blacks ARLC face a crucial game in their bid to beat the drop in the Pennine League premier division.

They play their rearranged last home fixture of the campaign against Huddersfield side St Joseph’s, who are coached by Leeds Rhinos star Keith Senior.

All Blacks are three points above their opponents and the relegation zone, but St Joseph’s have three games in hand, and won the reverse fixture 34-26 when the York side threw away the win with some poor defence late on.

Nonetheless, Earswick’s win at Kippax last week was well deserved and they are confident they can take the form into Saturday.

Veteran hooker Alan Pallister (shoulder), full-back Carl Fernandaz and pivot Liam Gargan face late fitness tests. Prop Wayne Foster should return but skipper Dan Wellard is unavailable.

All Blacks ‘A’ host Queensbury ‘A’ in their division five promotion push. Danny Battle is out for the rest of the season with a fractured jaw suffered in the cup quarter-final two weeks ago. Carl Pallister (groin) is also still having problems and prop Ben Fairburn (leg) is a doubt.

Selby Warriors return to action with a mouth-watering Pennine League Andrew Bennett Trophy quarter-final at home to old rivals Littleborough.

Coach Paul Helstrip has a full squad to pick from (players meet at 12.45pm at the school) as the division four leaders host the division three promotion-seekers.

Warriors ‘A’ visit Odsal Sedergh in division seven (players to meet at 12.45pm at the school).

The Warriors will hold a race night at their Gypsy Moth base on Satur-day starting at 7pm.

Money raised goes to the upkeep of their Foxhill Lane ground. Anyone interested in sponsoring the ground can phone 01977 663187 or 07800 585508.
