YORK Acorn produced yet another unbelievable Houdini act to overcome a 20-point deficit to extend their unbeaten start to the National Conference League Division One season.

Their prospects looked bleak when they trailed 32-12, but they dug deep and won the game 36-32 with a last-minute try from winger Callum Worthington.

The match was full of twists. Acorn looked to have set the tone for a comfortable victory when they scored three tries in the opening seven minutes.

Full back Matt Chilton scored the first in the second minute after his brother Antony provided the scoring pass.

The stand off also took advantage of good work by Tim Elliott and Tom Hill to put winger Josh Thompson over with a cut-out pass.

Worthington ran in the third try when centre Matty Downes made a break and created the opening.

Acorn squandered another scoring opportunity before Oulton opened their account with a try by prop Matt Stableford which Jordan Gale converted.

Acorn allowed another chance to slip from their grasp before Oulton centre Dominic Flanagan found acres of space out wide to score a try goaled by Gale.

Oulton went ahead with a try through substitute Jack Ledger while Flanagan's second score extended the lead to 20-12.

With the game edging towards half-time, Acorn suffered what appeared to be a fatal blow. They were attacking the Oulton try line before seeing a floated pass intercepted by Oulton flyer Zac Schofield who raced fully 90 metre to score a try goaled by Gale.

When substitute Brad Cahill scampered over for a try early in the second half and Gale added the extras their seemed no way back for Acorn as they trailed 32-12.

They comeback was triggered when Thomspon set up the position from where Antony Chilton spun his way over for Acorn's fourth try.

When substitute forward James Bromwich crashed over for a try and stand-off Chilton kicked his first goal from five attempts, the gap was down to ten points.

Acorn had the bit between their teeth and scored again when Antony Chilton put in a clever reverse kick near the Oulton try line and Hill gleefully pounced to score a try. Chilton's conversion made it 32-28.

The comeback was in full swing and Oulton's lead was wiped out when Downes used his raw power to score.

The final twist in this epic pulsating contest came when Acorn managed somehow to keep the ball alive close to the Oulton try line and winger Callum Worthington had just enough pace and balance to get past the last defender to score an unconverted try to seal this most unlikely of wins.
