TWO late goals saw Acomb Hockey Club Men I leapfrogged by Yorkshire League division two mid-table rivals Lindum III following a 4-2 defeat in Lincoln.

The opening 25 minutes saw a stalemate as both sides tried to outplay each other, while keeper Craig Brown and Stuart Baxter were also key to keeping the hosts at bay.

Lindum took the lead 10 minutes before the break with a roofed shot from a tight angle, but the Tangerines equalised almost immediately when Ryan Smith's cross found Matt Dickenson with time to control and beat the keeper.

Dave Richardson had an opportunity to give Acomb the lead just before half-time but fired wide, and Lindum restored their lead after the restart.

Acomb pegged them back for a second time from Dickenson's penalty corner drag and could have taken the lead had one of James Tindall, Ryan Smith or Bob Unsworth hit the target.

Instead, the Tangerines conceded twice in the final two minutes to complete the harsh-looking scoreline.

Acomb Men II are second in division five north after a 6-1 home win over Boston Spa III, bringing the Tangerines level on points with leaders Bingley Bees, whom they play next week.

The first major action of the game brought a good save from Acomb keeper Richard Crossland following a penalty corner, before skipper Jonny Brown smashed between the keeper and near post to give the hosts the lead after a quarter of an hour.

At the end of an even, end-to-end first half, man-of-the-match Andy Smith latched onto a rebounded save and lifted into the roof of the net.

Acomb were very much in control in the second half and Brown gave them some breathing room with a third goal before Boston Spa pulled one back.

Smith got his second to restore Acomb's three-goal lead and they pulled further ahead following a short corner as Tom Brown followed up on a save to slot in. Smith was denied his hat-trick by the visiting keeper but Martin Grainge pounced and buried the rebound.

Acomb Ladies were 3-0 home winners over 10th-placed Skipton and finished the day third in Yorkshire League division one, behind Halifax II on goal difference.

The home side were dominant in the first half, with captain Kerry Woods slotting in the opening goal from a one-on-one with the Skipton keeper.

Player-of-the-match Wendy Watson doubled the Tangerines' advantage from a well-placed Hannah Yoward pass before Woods found Jess Salter to add a third at the end of the period.

Neither side gained any advantage in the goalless second half, leaving Acomb with a comfortable cushion.
