HEWORTH ARLC Under-15s are enjoying recharging batteries after completing a whole season undefeated on their way to winning the Yorkshire League fourth division title.

The Villagers won 17 and drew one of their 18 contests, scoring a terrific total of 722 points and conceding only 164.

Trophies and the championship shield will be awarded to the players at a dinner held by the Yorkshire Junior League in December.

The team is skippered by Kian Oliver, with Ritesh Gurung his vice-captain. Both performed strongly throughout the year.

Marcus Walker and Harry Griffiths, meanwhile, impressed on kicking duty and didn’t missed many goals between them during the campaign.

Elsewhere on the pitch, the speedy Ethan Wilson and William Kirkup took some stopping on the wings with a flurry of tries and big Ethan Barnett led the forwards with some big hits, never missing a tackle.

The team’s success is also a reward for coach Tyrone Oliver, who took over the role in 2015.

Oliver has spent a lot of time at secondary schools in and around York recruiting players and has built a strong squad, as is highlighted by their achievements.

The side’s lure has seen three players travel from East Yorkshire and another from Guisborough, with team manager Leanne Oliver saying: “The full squad have been a credit to work with this year.

“They had a plan to win the 2017 U15s league and they have done that quite comfortably.”
