NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC can virtually secure top spot in Yorkshire Men's League division one tonight as they go to West Hull (7pm).

New Earswick are two points clear at the summit with two games to go and victory would leave Norland Sharks, the only team who can catch them, needing to win both their matches while hoping Jack Stearman's men slip up in their last game of term - a derby at York Acorn 'A' on September 9.

Norland would also need to overturn a points-difference deficit which currently stands at 50 and could rise further tonight with a big All Blacks victory.

New Earswick player-coach Stearman said: "If we win then we could effectively win top spot. The points-difference isn't insurmountable but it would need something special. Even a win by 10 or 12 points still puts us in command really.

"Either way it's in our hands, and it would be good to seal it over at Acorn. It wouldn't make it extra special - it's just the way the fixture have fallen - but it's hopefully what we deserve out of the season, with our form meriting our position."

All Blacks will field a strong side tonight, missing only long-term absentees Reece Blake and Jamie Norris and the unavailable Ben Stoker.

Added Stearman: "We've got a few back after the Heworth game.

"We were garbage (in that derby last time out). But to play that badly and get a draw is a positive. We hadn't had a blip this season but we considered that a blip and we'll look to make up for it."

The actual division one title will be decided by play-offs, with first hosting fourth and second meeting third in semi-finals.
