YORK Acorn ARLC boss Leigh Paul-Rientoul admits he has some headaches for Saturday's clash with Shaw Cross Sharks - but the kind every coach wants.

The Blue and Golds head into the Thanet Road game (2.30pm) having risen to fifth in National Conference League division one after last week's 50-16 win at Blackbrook.

That made it 90 points scored in two matches in which Lewis Lord and Lewis Brown have paired up at half-back, but Paul-Rientoul will also have stalwart stand-off Ant Chilton back available after his surprisingly quick recovery from a burns injury suffered at work which threatened his season. Winger Jack Stewart is also in contention again.

Said the head coach: "We will have to see how everyone is at training. Lewis and Lewis have paired up well and we've scored 90 points, so do I want to change that? But Ant has been a key player for us.

"Lewis Lord is also good at hooker but we've got two in there who have been playing really well in Jimmy Mountford and Nick Speck. We can maybe look at Lewis at loose-forward.

"There are a few tough decisions to be made but I would rather be in this position than not."

On Stewart, he added: "It's another tough call. He's probably one our best players on his day but it's tough to leave someone out after last week."

In the pack, Harry Bromwich has joined Tim Stubbs on the unavailable list but Chris Fox is back while 'A' team captain Chris Rushworth - brother of York City Knights star Joe Porter - impressed in the first team last week and could keep his spot.

Acorn won the reverse fixture at Shaw Cross - who are coached by former York City Knights player-boss Paul March - two months ago.

Added Paul Rientoul: "I don't think we had our best side out when we won at their place and we've got a more consistent team out now, with players battling for shirts in training.

"It was a brilliant win last week - really good stuff. We've worked on going back to basics and it's been paying off. Hopefully it will continue this week."

New Earswick All Blacks go to Skirlaugh Bulls confident of consolidating top spot in Yorkshire Men's League division one.

Their game against Mirfield last week was postponed by the visitors but player-coach Jack Stearman reckoned that was no bad thing, given he will be almost up to full strength this Saturday, barring centre Tom Hields (shoulder).

"It was good to have a week off prior to the run-in," said Stearman, whose team have four away games and that one home match with Mirfield to come.

"Skirlaugh can go third with their games in hand and at their place it will always be tough, but we need to win the rest of our games. It's in our hands."

Heworth go to second-placed Norland Sharks where victory will not only aid the All Blacks' title chances but keep the Villagers' own promotion hopes alive, while on-the-rise Acorn 'A' host West Hull in a 7.30pm kick off.

Division four leaders York Lokomotive go to potential title rivals Stainland Stags.
