NEW Earswick All Blacks lead the Yorkshire Men’s League division one by two points after a bad tempered win over local rivals York Acorn ‘A’.

The All Blacks had Adam Caddie sent off and Dan Atkinson sin-binned during the clash at White Rose Avenue but still emerged 24-12 winners.

After an evenly-contested start to the game, the All Blacks broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Tom Barron crossed for his eighth try of the season. Tom Holmes successfully converted the kick.

Holmes then crossed for a try of his own four mins later before converting again to give the home side a 12 point advantage.

Acorn ‘A’ went into the game having suffered defeats in all five opening games of the season.

Things got even worse for Acorn just before the interval as winger Dean Smith added a third try for New Earswick.

Holmes made it three out of three with the boot to give his side an 18-0 lead.

Although the rain was making conditions difficult for both sides, the All Blacks increased their advantage when Jack Carling scored his first try of the season.

Holmes narrowly missed his first conversion.

Eight minutes into the second half, an altercation between Acorn forward Martin McTigue and Adam Caddie saw the latter shown a red card.

Acorn took advantage of the extra man to post their first points of the game when full back Jake Calam broke free down the left side to score a converted try. 22-6.

The All Blacks saw their numbers reduced further when prop Atkinson was sent for 10 minutes.

Although the game was now out of Acorn’s reach, a penalty on the 20 metre line was too good of an opportunity to waste so Holmes nudged the score to 24-6.

With the rain now getting far heavier, Acorn had the last say of the game when scoring in the right corner. The conversion was missed.

York Lokomotive are two points clear in YML division four after a 46-0 win away at bottom of the table Wibsey Warriors ‘A’.
