YORK Acorn ‘A’ will look to get off the mark in the Yorkshire Men’s League first division on Saturday – possibly boosted by a few first-teamers.

The Blue and Golds’ second string fell 38-28 in their derby at Heworth last week to make it two defeats from two. They now host Mirfield Stags (2.30pm).

Acorn’s first team have no fixture in the National Conference League so, while most of those players will get a weekend off, a few may turn out – such as Tom Hill, who came back from his long injury absence last week, Adam Endersby, who is also building match fitness, and Tim Elliott, who is back from holiday.

First-team coach Leigh Paul-Rientoul said: “Both Tom and Adam came off the bench last week and it’s good to have them back. Tom put a great hit in – you had to see it to believe it.

“They might get a run for the ‘A’ team to build their fitness.”

In-form Heworth and New Earswick All Blacks both have weekends off. Heworth’s fixture at Odsal Sedbergh has been postponed due to the hosts’ involvement in a local Bradford ARL Cup final and rearranged for Saturday, June 24. All Blacks’ match at Skirlaugh has been put back due to a player’s stag do.

York Lokomotive, who won 26-14 at Sheffield Hawks in their division four opener, host Bradford Victoria Rangers.

l HEWORTH ‘A’ beat New Earswick All Blacks 42-24 in their return pre-season fixture. In an entertaining game, the Villagers, for whom Tom Speck shone, held the upper hand throughout, building a 20-8 half-time lead.

Rich Rogers led the try-scoring with four, while Mike Welsh, Jake Atkinson (2), and Max Cary also crossed. Gary Watkinson (5) and Jordan Bracewell added goals.

All Blacks, never giving in, replied with a hat-trick from man-of-the-match Dominic Judge, plus touchdowns by Devon Smith and Will Ireland. Harrison Todd and Connor Calum added goals.
