NEW Earswick All Blacks "stuck to their game plan" in their convincing 48-4 victory over Featherstone Lions in the Forty20 Cup.

All Blacks wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard at the Mill Pond Stadium, with Tommy Hields going over after four minutes, and Tom Holmes converting.

That advantage was soon stretched to 12-0 as Liam Gargan touched down to the left of the sticks, with Holmes again kicking the extras.

Five minutes later, man of the match Tom Barron broke through two would-be tacklers to score under the posts. Holmes' boot extended the lead to 18-0.

Next to get over the line was Alex Wilkins in his first game back for over a year – brushing aside the Featherstone defence to race clear and place the ball under the posts. Holmes' made it 24-0.

Featherstone pulled back four points before the break, with an unconverted try.

Although the hosts began the second half well, they were soon blitzed by the All Blacks as Hields ran in three tries in just ten minutes. Holmes kicked one of the three conversions and the visitors were 38-4 to the good.

After causing the Lions' defence problems all afternoon, prop Dan Atkinson got over for two tries of his own, with Holmes converting one to make the final score 48-4.

All Blacks' Jack Stearman said: “I liked what I saw – the lads stuck to the game plan and put in to practice the things we have been focusing on in training.

“We could have got bogged down when the Lions tried to slow the game and drag us into confrontation, but we kept our heads and played our own game."
