YORK Acorn ARLC'S relegation from the National Conference League premier division was confirmed in no uncertain terms with a 64-6 thrashing at West Hull.

Joe Porter, the Blue and Golds' man of the match and arguably their standout performer all year, got their try, Antony Chilton adding the goal.

But West Hull ran in ten tries, winger Luke Foster leading the way with three touchdowns and eight goals for a 28-point haul.

The home side, second in the league, featured former York City Knights, London Broncos and Hull KR bruiser Ryan Esders - who turned in a man-of-the-match display off the bench.

Acorn, promoted to amateur rugby league's elite tier through the division one play-offs last term, are three points from safety with only two games left.

Acorn 'A' have also finished bottom of the Yorkshire Men's League premier division, all after a promising start to the season in which they won seven of their opening nine games, lifted the Forty-20 Cup and sat pretty in the table.

They lost their last eight games, conceding their last four, including Saturday's home game with Beverley, due to a lack of available players.

Heworth's final game of the season saw them slip to sixth in division one, on points difference, after a 44-26 defeat at West Hull Lions 'A'.

It was a patchy display by the Villagers, who trailed 22-10 at the break but struck back on the resumption to lead 26-22 thanks mainly to a hat-trick by winger Callum Worthington.

The hosts, however, posted four unanswered touchdowns in the final quarter to close out a see-saw encounter.

West Hull went ahead after five minutes through centre Nathan Sawyers, with Heworth responding four minutes later as scrum-half Liam Jackson put Worthington over, prop Joe Deighton converting.

The Humbersiders replied strongly, taking advantage of sloppy defending with two tries from full-back Kieran Jones and one for scrum-half Lennox Green, who added all the extras.

On 32 minutes, Heworth were back in it after some superb handling put man-of-the-match Worthington over in the corner.

The Villagers then turned the game on its head with three tries in the opening ten minutes of the second half through prop Jonny Clark, who muscled his way over from close range, Worthington's hat-trick score, after a break by Jackson, and second-row Tom Barron, following another excellent handling move.

Deighton tagged on two conversions to put Heworth 26-22 in front.

The hosts, though, responded in kind through second-rowers Kris Stocks and Ray Brown, prop Kial Arnett and Sawyers again, with Green adding three goals.

The result lifted the Lions above the Black and Whites into fifth on points-difference.

Heworth hold their end-of-season barbecue and awards presentations at their clubhouse on Saturday, starting at 2.30pm.
