HEWORTH turned on the style to record a resounding 64-22 success over Knottingley Worms in their final home game of the Yorkshire Men's League division one season.

The Villagers posted four first-half tries to lead 22-12 at the break and, despite a dogged effort by the visitors, went on to add eight further touchdowns in the second period, including a hat-trick by debutant scrum-half Liam Jackson, who also kicked seven conversions for a personal tally of 26 points.

Heworth scored their first try after four minutes with player-coach George Elliott forcing his way over from close range.

They extended their lead nine minutes later when centre Tom Barron jinked his way through the defence, but the Worms responded immediately with a try from stand-off Jimmy Brown goaled by substitute Daniel Jackson.

The hosts were soon back in control with touchdowns for prop Jonny Clark and second-row Liam Richmond, but three minutes before the break Knottingley gave themselves a glimmer of hope with winger Jarvis Kennedy crossing and Jackson goaling.

Any hopes of a comeback were extinguished in the opening 13 minutes of the second half, as the Black and Whites, in a devastating period of attacking play, registered four tries by full-back Fraser West, hooker Dave Hayes, Barron and Richmond, suddenly making it 44-12.

The West Yorkshire outfit never gave up and were rewarded with a touchdown from hooker Sean James converted by Jackson. But the Villagers exerted their authority with Jackson crossing on 62 and 67 minutes, and sub Sam Atkinson going over three minutes later.

The visitors managed a consolation effort from centre Danny Parish seven minutes from the end but there was still time for Jackson to complete his hat-trick and Elliott's goal sealed the win.

Jackson was man of the match, with Richmond and wingman Callum Worthington also outstanding.

York Acorn 'A' took runaway premier division leaders Sharlston Rovers close before succumbing to a 38-34 defeat at Thanet Road.

York Lokomotive gave themselves hope of climbing off the foot of the division two table with two games to go thanks to a 34-20 win over fellow strugglers Scarborough Pirates.
