HEWORTH ARLC are gearing up for a notable day of international rugby league on Sunday when Great Britain Masters take on the touring Aussies - with two local aces in the team.

The Elm Park Way clash, which kicks off at 3pm, will feature Simon Moat, of York Lokomotive ARLC, and Heworth veteran Dan Briggs, the one-time York prop forward.

The Australian Masters are playing five matches in total during their two-week tour, but this one is the sole Test match and organisers are hoping for a bumper turnout.

The Aussies kicked off their tour matches on Saturday against Cumbria Masters at Whitehaven and were taking on Wigan at Wigan St Jude’s this midweek.

Sunday's international clash will be followed by matches against Leeds Masters at West Leeds Sports and Social Club on Tuesday and against Medway Dragons at the home of London Broncos on a date to be confirmed.

This tour follows similar events in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, while the GB Masters went down under in 2009 and 2015.

Sunday's encounter will be preceded at 1.30pm by a match between Heworth Masters and a Chairman’s Select XIII.

Entry is free, and there will be a barbecue and bar on all afternoon.
