DANNY LIDDELL swapped his old York Acorn ARLC colours for those of neighbours Heworth and starred with a hat-trick as the Villagers' Masters team enjoyed a revenge victory at Hull Dockers.

In their last meeting in February, Dockers took the spoils but Heworth were keen to set the record straight.

Both teams fielded strong sides with Heworth giving a debut to new signing Liddell, who settled quickly into the game and linked up well with established Masters Dan Briggs and Darren Callaghan, another ex-Acorn ace.

After brutal early exchanges, Liddell took a short pass inside and turned on the gas to break away from the Hull full-back.

Dockers frequently looked a threat with Robbie Shaw controlling play at half-back, but a well-drilled Heworth stood strong.

A second try followed, this time from Callaghan, as Heworth controlled the game, building on territory and spreading the ball well.

To cap a great Masters debut, Liddell crossed the line twice more.

The Heworth pack, led by veterans Tony Southerington and Martin Lambert, worked hard, with noteworthy performances from Steve Tait in his last game for a while, the hard-running Craig Caygill and second-row Andrew Bates, who in his third outing played like a seasoned forward and shared the man-of-the-match award with Liddell.

Heworth player-manager Steve Towse said: "This was the one game we wanted to bring our best for. The Dockers are an outstanding Masters team and we knew they’d be the biggest test of the season. We’re chuffed with our performance and look forward to lining up against these boys again next season."
