YORK Acorn ARLC head coach Scott Rhodes is seemingly considering his future at the club due to ongoing "disappointment" over players' attitudes at Thanet Road.

The Blue and Golds are yet to win in the National Conference League premier division since promotion and they face another difficult task this Saturday at Cumbrian amateur giants Wath Brow (2.30pm).

But Rhodes says that, rather than results, it is the negativity and lethargy in the camp that has left him wondering if he has taken the team as far as he can.

He has been left particularly non-plussed this week by having "no clue" what his team might be, or even if they can fulfil the fixture, given players' failure to report back following their weekend away playing in a beach rugby tournament in Majorca.

Asked if he expected another tough game, Rhodes said: "It's tougher when 22 lads go to Magaluf. I don't know what they're like, how they're feeling, if they're injured. I might know a bit more tonight.

"We'll have one training session before Wath Brow - it's hardly ideal preparation.

"I'm not disappointed players go away, not at all, but I've not got a clue what the team will be.

"I'm not here to make numbers up. I'm here to coach a team and win games. That's what I was like as a player.

"I put a lot of time into this and sometimes I feel I'm not getting that commitment back.

"When things are going well, you don't see anybody not training. We've now lost a few games in the premier and things start to happen, with negativity around the place.

"Are we going to go to Wath Brow and lie down? I don't want to watch that."

Acorn had no game last weekend, allowing players to go to Majorca.

"We had some players complaining of injury yet they go to Magaluf and play beach rugby," added Rhodes.

"I'm disappointed with some attitudes. We're not where we need to be as a team and a club.

"We'll see where we're at this week and I will consider where I'm at."

Acorn 'A' host Hull Wyke in Yorkshire Men's League premier division.

Heworth - again without veteran pack star Wayne Foster and full-back Fraser West - host King Cross Park in division one looking to get their home campaign off to a good start, while York Lokomotive entertain Ossett Trinity in division two.

Meanwhile, New Earswick All Blacks' Pennine League season has ended with a call-off - mirroring the "farcical" season as a whole.

All Blacks have waited weeks to play their last game but visitors West Leeds Eagles have now conceded Saturday's game, leaving player-coach Jack Stearman's men fifth of the eight teams that finished the season in the championship tier.

Given others call-offs, forfeits and a raft of postponements over the wet winter, it meant they have only played a dozen matches.

"What a farcical year," said Stearman. "This sums it up.

"With fixtures moving about and games called off on Saturday mornings, it's been a topsy-turvy season. A lot of it has been weather-related and I know you have to take the rough with the smooth in winter rugby, but we've only played 12 times.

"It's great playing rugby with your mates and that's why the lads do it, but we've had no continuity and that takes enjoyment away."

All Blacks still have one game to go - the York & District Cup final against Acorn on a date to be confirmed.

Stearman's men, defending the trophy, beat Lokos in the semi-final, while Heworth conceded their tie against Acorn due to injuries.

Said Stearman "It'd be great to win it again - we're up for the challenge."
