Kingstone Press National Conference League Premier Division: Lock Lane 58 York Acorn 12

AFTER their 66-0 defeat against York City Knights in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup a fortnight previously, York Acorn didn't find it much easier when they made their return to the top flight of the Kingstone Press National Conference League.

Knights put 13 tries past their amateur neighbours but the Castleford hosts reached the whitewash 11 times in handing out a comprehensive defeat on the opening day of the summer season.

Acorn trailed 26-0 at half-time but managed tries in the second half from prop Joe Porter and loose forward Elliot Bulmer, hooker James Mountford tagging on two goals.

Try-scorers for Lane, who christened their new kit in style as they warmed up for next weekend's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie against Featherstone Lions at Featherstone Rovers, were centre Lewis Price (2), winger Adam Garlick (2), interchange Calum Butler (2), full back Michael Hayward, centre Nicky Saxton, stand-off Nathan Fozzard, hooker Paul Brown and interchange Jordan Siddons, with scrum half Daniel Rowse adding six goals and Fozzard one.

York Acorn have no match next Saturday as scheduled opponents Pilkington Recs have a Challenge Cup tie at home to Halifax.
