SELBY Warriors host Greetland All Rounders on Saturday (2.30pm) looking to get back to winning ways in Pennine League division two.

The Warriors, without a game last week, have gone three matches without a win, virtually ending their promotion aspirations given the form of top two Cutsyke Raiders and Ovenden.

New Earswick All Blacks have no championship game this weekend, which could help as they look to regroup and get some injured players back after calling off their last two games.

Sherburn Bears also have a blank weekend in division four east as they recuperate from some potentially season-defining games - including bouncing back from their first defeat of term by beating hosts East Leeds 24-20 in last weekend's top-of-the-table clash.

Table-toppers Sherburn went ahead as slick passing from half-backs Sam Booth and Andrew Johnson and full-back Ben Pugh released centre Jordan Richards, who galloped home, hooker Connor Jordan converting.

But East Leeds upped their intensity and struck back with two quick-fire tries, despite a couple of try-saving tackles from young Bears centre Layton Orford to lead 10-6.

Sherburn coach Kev Jordan threw on experienced substitutes to steady the ship and the second half saw the Bears come out with renewed enthusiasm.

Great carries saw them make headway before Booth released a cracking cut-out pass to winger Dom Romans, who dived over in the corner to equalise.

Sherburn started to cut loose, with Johnson, Booth and loose-forward Ryan Roebuck causing problems, and captain Ray Boyes barged in for Jordan to convert and put the Bears back in front.

Man-of-the-match Roebuck then burst through following good work at dummy-half from Johnson to score a great individual try, and a strong carry from Matt Orford paved the way for Johnson to skip out of dummy-half and race home from 40 metres on a brilliant mazy run.

The game should have been up with a 14-point lead but the Bears took their foot of the gas and East Leeds capitalised with two late scores, the second on full-time.

Sherburn next week meet Allerton, the team that ended their 100 per cent record a fortnight ago.
