HEWORTH Under-10s produced a storming second-half comeback to win 30-16 at Swillington.

The Villagers, returning to action after their summer break, trailed 16-10 at the interval despite getting off to a flying start as Feargus Brown poached a try by diving over from acting half.

Swillington then forged ahead with a converted try and, after Kian Ogilvie's jinking run saw him cross the whitewash for a try he then converted, the hosts struck back by touching down twice more before the break.

A tremendous tackling display throughout by Keane Brough, the coaches' and opposition choice as man of the match, set the tone for the Villagers' fight back and, along with the efforts of top-tackler Lucas Burden, put Swillington on the back foot for the remainder of the game.

The latter scored a superb brace of tries as he ran the home side ragged and Kyle Hudson converted his second on the final whistle.

Sam Hunt, with fleet of foot, made a try out of nothing to dive over with Brown converting.

Parents' man-of-the match Oliver Lambert was outstanding, especially in the second half, topped off by a scintillating run from acting half from inside his own half to power his way down the field and dive over.

The most improved award went to Sydney Bates with Liam Foster, Jacob Hopkin and Hudson all running him close.

At home to Whinmoor Warriors, Heworth U9s started well with tries from Leon Jones and Zach Towse after good work from the impressive Will McCardle and Harrison Barker.

But Whinmoor fought back to lead in the second half.

Man-of-the-match Adam Hodgson's tries then brought Heworth back into the game and risky offloading ended with Ellis Cochrane crossing.

But the same risky offloading led to Heworth gifting Whinmoor a late score and with it the points.

In a game where Max Duffield and Toby Driscoll also gained certificates, Heworth's lack of composure was again their downfall.

Heworth U8s lost at Eastmoor Dragons despite four tries from man-of-the-match Ben Blackburn.

Certificates were also awarded to Harley Nicholson, Isaac Cook and Lee Smith.

Heworth U8s came up just short against a brilliant Lock Lane side.

Withstanding an early onslaught, the Villagers scored a fine individual try from Kenzie Witty and man-of-the-match Dan Clarke also got his team back in the game just before the break.

Further good passing from Clarke went on to set up second-half tries for Tom Hardy (two) and Harvey Monks.

With top-tackler Freddie Wilson and man-of-steel Soren Tait to the fore, Heworth came right back at their visitors before two late Lane tries sealed their fate.
