YORK Acorn ARLC have a quick chance to put right the wrongs of Saturday when they host Elland at Thanet Road tonight (6.30pm).

The Blue and Golds were beaten 34-22 at home by Normanton at the weekend, leaving them hanging on to the last play-off place in National Conference League division one on points-difference.

Boss Scott Rhodes declared it a poor performance and has called for his team to make up for it in tonight's encounter, which has been rearranged from earlier in the season when Elland had a cup tie.

"It gives us a chance to get straight back into it and put things right from Saturday," said Rhodes.

"We gifted them two points. I thought we were poor. We played with no composure with the ball and didn't defend our line very well.

"Things we've been doing pretty well we did not do well on Saturday for some reason. It just didn't click.

"I'm hoping it's just one of those things - we'll see (tonight).

"We had a good chat on Tuesday about things we didn't do right and had a good training session and I'm looking forward to the game to see how we respond to Saturday."

The game was initially pencilled in for Saturday - a blank weekend in amateur rugby league's fixture list due to the sport's annual pilgrimage to London for the Challenge Cup final - but it was brought forward after Elland requested it be switched again due to too many of their players and staff going to Wembley.

Rhodes reckoned it probably makes life harder for the visitors, who themselves were thrashed 60-6 by Shaw Cross at the weekend and currently sit only just above the relegation zone.

"They've got to come from Halifax for a 6.30pm kick off," he reasoned. "They beat us at their place when they had a big physical side and played their (sloping) pitch pretty well. But we're capable of beating them - we've just got to play well."

Rhodes is hoping a recall for Antony Chilton will help them do just that. Chilton is back in the squad along with Nick Speck and Jack Byrnes, who have flitted in and out of the side due to other commitments and form, and Daryl North, who has not turned out for the first team since March but has done well in the reserves. Elliot Bulmer, Jordan Potter and Matthew Woods are unavailable.

"We have to complete our sets better and our kicking game needs to be better. If we do that, we've got a good chance," said Rhodes.

"Chillo's been in and out all season but he's the best kicker at the club and we missed that at the weekend."
