NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC Under-14s have been crowned Yorkshire League division four champions with games to spare.

After back-to-back wins over their nearest challengers, the All Blacks secured the title with a 42-6 win over Wibsey, giving further evidence they should probably have been moved up into a higher tier earlier in the year.

The team were immediately congratulated by York City Knights captain Pat Smith, of whom they are sponsors.

The man of the match against Wibsey was Jamie Chester, while tries came from Cameron Wainwright (2), Daniel Scorfield, Matthew Jefferson (2), and George Austin, with a hat-trick. Iain Oakley booted five goals.

Depleted Heworth U10s put in one of their best performances of the season despite losing 24-18 to Fryston Warriors.

Kian Ogilvie was immense, scoring a brace of tries, the first being a long-range try-of-the-season contender.

Oliver Lambert and debutant Adam Wong were outstanding, winning man-of-the-match accolades, as was top tackler Keane Brough as the Villagers' team spirit shone through.

Fryston, though, led 12-6 at half-time and, while Ogilvie levelled after a jinking run, Fryston scored two quick tries with ten minutes left.

The Villagers' late pressure paid off with a superb individual try by Lambert but they had no time for a leveller. Conversions were added by Ogilvie, Sydney Bates and Feargus Brown.

Heworth U9s were edged out at the end of a thrilling contest at unbeaten Drighlington.

Heworth's improvement since defeat to Drig earlier in the season was clear.

They muscled their way to an early lead through Leon Jones and Ellis Cochrane but Drig drew level.

Magnificent tackling by men-of-the-match Samual Budge and Kiegan Cumberland kept the game close and Heworth retook the lead after strong running by Will McCardle saw him grab a brace.

Again Drig replied, with the game then going to and fro with Cumberland grabbing two tries only for Drig to capitalise on tired tackling to take a narrow victory late on.

Heworth U8s produced a strong performance at Odsal Sedburgh but lost 12-7.

They started well playing up the slope but conceded tries before half-time. They won the second half, but it wasn't enough.

Man-of-the-match George Innes bagged five tries, the impressive Ben Taylor two. Certificates were awarded to a massively improved top tackler Isaac Cook, Kai Gatenby and the excellent Charlie Blackburn.

Man of steel Dan Clarke and parents' man of the match Harvey Barker led from the front as Heworth U8s 'A' shone at Hunslet Parkside.

On a tight pitch, defences were always going to be the difference and Heworth's line was only breached once in a phenomenal effort.

Freddie Wilson was again the top tackler but was pushed all the way by the brilliant Thomas Hardy, while Jack Thompson gave 100 per cent in his best performance of the season.

Tries for Heworth came from Harvey Monks, Harvey Barker and James Potter.
