LEWIS LORD terrorised Salford City Roosters as York Acorn racked up a 46-16 victory in National Conference League division one.

Salford had knocked Premier division side Lock Lane out of the Challenge Trophy but, barring a spell of early pressure, they found their visit to Thanet Road a demoralising experience.

Acorn defended three sets on their own goal line in the first three minutes before Lord, with a great side step, offloaded to Ryan Gallacher. Joe Budd was in support as Acorn travelled 60 metres to score.

They were over the whitewash again on ten minutes. Lord again caused havoc from dummy half and found Harry Bromwich to cross.

It was one way traffic.

Tim Stubbs and Josh Mortimer set the platform for Bromwich to find Josh Thompson with a quick pass out on the wing. He out-smarted his opposite number to go over as Salford struggled to make any ground.

Making their first foray into Acorn territory for some time on 24 minutes, they were then punished once more as Thompson gathered a kick over and made 30 metres before off-loading to the supporting Jordan Myers. He out-raced the opposition to the line.

As half-time approached, Joe Porter forced his way over and Acorn led 26-0 at the break.

It took only four minutes after the restart for Acorn to score again. Thompson's remarkable run downfield saw him brush off five or six tacklers and make 40 metres. After a Salford knock on from the next play, the resulting scrum saw Acorn get to work for stand-off Tom Mackley, who scored on a great line.

Nick Speck came on for Lord and took over where the latter had left off - pulling the strings as Myers scored his second.

Salford showed great spirit throughout and, with Acorn missing tackles as they advanced, centre George Kemp reached the whitewash for their opening try.

But Acorn opened up the visitors once more on the hour mark. Myers made the break before handing over to Thompson for his second try of the match and, four minutes later and with Lord back in the fray, he took on the line to feed Joe Porter. He made it despite the attention of three defenders.

Salford continued to push for points and, with four minutes to play, were rewarded for their efforts with a score from Mike Foster. Then, on the stroke of full-time, Salford’s man of the match Kemp caught Acorn switching off to score his second.

It was mere consolation.
