YORK Acorn ARLC were thwarted by a tough Myton Warriors defence as they went down 36-18 in National Conference League division one.

Myton opened the scoring with a well-taken try from man of the match Joe Dewsbury at Thanet Road, but Acorn replied on 15 minutes when Antony Chilton managed to prise open the defence from short distance.

The visiting side continued to push forward after repelling Acorn pressure and Dewsbury grabbed his second on 19 minutes, converted by Ash James.

Nathan Slater then crossed shortly before half-time, again converted by James for a 16-4 lead at the break.

The second half followed the same pattern as Myton claimed a penalty early on, but there was no further score until the hour mark when Kris Walker crossed for Myton and converted his own try.

Acorn responded almost immediately, Joe Porter crashing over to give the home side a glimmer of a comeback.

That was short-lived as Myton again exploited poor defence with Richard Dunham crossing and Walker converting.

The final ten minutes saw Acorn show some of the flair of recent games, Jordan Myers scoring followed by Josh Thompson.

Adam Endersby then went close, while Tom Hill and Tim Stubbs were held up over the line and Joe Budd touched down close to the dead ball line but "no try" was the call by the referee.

In the final seconds, Myton put the icing on the cake with a score from Slater, converted by James.
