YORK Ladies ARLFC take to the big stage at Featherstone Rovers’ Post Office Road on Easter Sunday looking for a momentous first - lifting the Women’s Ama teur Rugby League Association’s Challenge Cup.

Having formed in 2009, York have previously featured in four plate finals, but have this year reached the main cup competition final for the first time.

York - who play out of York Acorn’s Thanet Road ground and New Earswick All Blacks’ White Rose Avenue - finished the WARLA league campaign slap bang in mid-table with six wins and six losses.

However, following a steady start this season, they have latterly reaped the rewards of their hard work - most notably by beating league winners Normanton 32-0 in the cup semi-final.

They will now meet Oulton Raidettes in Sunday’s showdown.

The experienced outfit finished second in the league, one point behind Normanton. They had been unbeaten until losing to York at White Rose Avenue in January.

York coach Andy Fletcher said: “The final is set up nicely with one win apiece in the league.

“We know Oulton are a top side, but so are we. We’ve had a good end to the season and trained hard – we’re confident we can take the cup this Sunday.”

York Ladies have already received individual accolades via representative honours, with Mary Tiplady appearing for the England Lioness’ squad, Ashleigh Hyde being accepted to the next round of England Students trials, and eight players contributing to the Yorkshire county side team.
