NEW Earswick ARLFC suffered a narrow 39-28 defeat to Pennine League Championship leaders Doncaster Toll Bar.

After an even first 20 minutes All Blacks broke the deadlock when Jamie Norris crossed. Tom Holmes added the extras.

All Blacks stretched their lead when man of the match Jack Stearman powered his way over, Holmes again converting.

Then Doncaster rattled in three converted tries for a lead that was narrowed when All-Blacks’ Dean Smith just before half-time.

Two more Doncaster tries followed only for Stearman to notch his second, Holmes obliging once more with the kick.

After each side swapped converted tries - Smith going over and Holmes kicking - Doncaster sealed the win in the final ten minutes with a drop goal and a try.

Sherburn Bears tumbled out of the Castleford Cup but only after a tough tie at Cutsyke Raiders, who are three full divisions above.

A tight first half saw the Raiders leading 14-6 with the Bears points coming from a Bryn Watson try and Connor Jordan conversion.

Sherburn’s second-half try went to Nico Deville improved by a second Jordan conversion.

Best for the Bears was Elmet Driver Training man of the match Sam Booth.

He was at the core of all the Bears’ attacking moves and also led the defensive charge. He topped the tackle count with 41.

Second rated was Jordan with another accomplished display at scrum-half and finishing second in the tackle count with 36.

Third place went to young back rower Jack Charlesworth.

He was third too in the tackle ratings, tallying 30 and carried the ball strongly all match.

The supporters’ man of the match award went to Johnboy Fenwick for his bone-crunching tackling.

Selby Warriors beat visiting Worth Village 50-34 in the third round of the Supplementary Cup.
