SHERBURN Bears romped to a 52-0 win over West Bowling ‘A’ in Pennine League division four.

The Bears did not have it all their own way as Bowling produced a typically tough defensive performance in the first 40 minutes to keep the score down to 16-0.

However, the Bears had far too much quality for the Bradford outfit and ran in tries from Jordan Richards, Rhys Hughes, Luke Wood and Martin Leahy, while James Raywood, Johnboy Fenwick and Kevin Dalton all scored two apiece.

Leahy also kicked six conversions.

The top performer for the Bears was 16-year-old Connor Jordan, who won the Elmet Driver Training man of the match.

Second place went to hard-working forward Chris Box, who put in a series of tough tackles, while leading the forward carries with some big strong drives.

Third place went to loose forward Shaun Crossland, who is getting back to his bone-crunching best.

New Earswick started 2015 on a losing note after being defeated 16-0 by second-placed Dewsbury Moor in championship one.

Dewsbury took the lead with a converted try and added an unconverted score to lead 10-0 at half-time. Dewsbury only managed a further try in the second half to claim victory.

The All Blacks man of the match was Jack Sinclair, backed up well by player coach Jack Stearman and Nic Caldwell, with Charlie Hill making a solid debut.

Selby Warriors lost 34-0 at home to second placed Eastmoor Dragons in division four.
