NEW EARSWICK All Blacks players will remember the name of Dennis Harrison every time they don their distinctive shirt.
One of the founder members of the White Rose Avenue rugby league outfit 31 years ago, he died late last year while on holiday in Benidorm and, in tribute to the former chairman, the club's new shirt has his moniker adorned on the back.
It was unveiled before Saturday's Pennine League Championship victory over King Cross and coach Jack Stearman said it was an emotional occasion. The pre-match ceremony was attended by Harrison's children, Richard and Sarah.
"There was a big crowd to witness it and our first home league win," Stearman said. "It really motivated the players. Dennis was a big part of the creation of New Earswick All Blacks.
"Everyone feels an emotional connection to him - even those who didn't know him. It is an honour to put on the All Blacks shirt with his name on the back."
