A SALUTARY lesson in finishing was meted out to New Earswick All Blacks ARLFC.

The York ranks were defeated 84-6 by hosts Drighlington in a BARLA Yorkshire Cup second round tie.

All Blacks were 30-0 down before getting on the board just before half-time when Tommy Hields converted a penalty.

In the opening minutes of the second half All Blacks crossed after debutant Paul Traynor’s tackle forced Drighlington to spill the ball. Dean Smith scored in the corner.

Drighlington stretched their advantage with nine further tries but All Blacks never let their heads drop.

Man of the match for the All Blacks was Reece Blake backed up well by another debutant, Jordan Potter, plus Jack Carling and Traynor.

Playing in only their second Pennine League division four fixture of the season, Sherburn Bears nilled hosts Wortley Dragons.

Fielding a young side with a number of new recruits and debutants this was a potentially tricky match, but there was no need to worry as the youthful Bears had far too much for the Dragons.

Tries flowed from Ray Boyes, Adam Wright, Ben Pugh, Jordan Harrison and two apiece by Antony Yates and Lloyd Harrison. Martin Leahy kicked five conversions with one from Connor Jordan.

The Elmet Driver Training man of the match went to Harrison, the young centre topping the tackle count with 29 on his debut.

Second place went to hard-working front row forward Chris Box, while third place went to half back Yates, another debutant to shine. The supporters’ man of the match went to Pugh.

The Bears host Farnley Falcons, on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
