NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC go into a benchmark game against Pennine League big guns Drighlington on Saturday bolstered by the signing of Featherstone Rovers academy starlet Jordan Potter.

York Acorn ARLC product Haiden Barber, a former York City Knights academy player, is also poised for a debut as the All Blacks gear up for their BARLA Yorkshire Cup tie looking to cause a major upset.

Player-boss Jack Stearman accepts the game is more about "seeing where the side are at" as the championship outfit tackle the premier division pace-setters. Either way, the new recruits are a big boost in their hopes to join the premier ranks via promotion.

Said Stearman: "Jordan didn't play much at Featherstone because of injury. He just wants games.

"He's been training well and I'm looking forward to both him and playing for us."

Potter, a record-breaking try-scorer as a junior at Heworth, joined Rovers' youth system in 2011 at under-16s level. The teenager's contract there is now at an end and Stearman, who is also employed at the Knights, says a pathway is open for a switch to the League One outfit.

"The opportunity is there for everybody in this area to progress (at the Knights)," said Stearman when asked if it was an option for Potter.

"I'd hope he'd like to join York. It might be about the reserves initially but it's a stepping stone in the right direction.

"Right now, though, he needs games which is why he's come here. I'm sure he'll be good for us."

As for Saturday's second-round tie, Stearman said: "It's tough but we go into it with nothing to lose.

"I go into every game expecting to get a result and so do the players. But it's a performance-based thing for us. We were rubbish last time out and we need to improve our performance.

"To get drawn against arguably the premier team in the competition away from home gives our players the opportunity to prove they can do it at that level and show where we want to be."

New Earswick have been drawn away to Bentley Good Companions - who edged them on the opening day of the league season in the first round of the Pennine League President's Cup.

Selby Warriors, meanwhile, have been drawn at division six side Boothtown Terriers 'A' in the Supplementary Cup. Neighbours Sherburn Bears were given a bye.

The Warriors go to Eastmoor Dragons in division four this Saturday, while Sherburn visit Wortley Dragons.
