JACK STEARMAN has slated New Earswick All Blacks ARLC's latest performance as the worst during his tenure as player-boss - but has backed his team to return to form after their weekend off.

The bulk of the amateur game takes a break in order to take in the Super League Grand Final this Saturday. It means All Blacks have to wait an extra seven days to right the wrongs of their 42-18 Pennine League championship defeat at Illingworth - although they face a tough task to do so when they go to free-scoring early premier division pacesetters Drighlington in the BARLA Yorkshire Cup second round.

Stearman said of last Saturday's outing: "It was not a performance we set our standards to. The only bonus is it was away from home and it's the beginning of the season so we can work on it.

"It was the worst performance since I became coach (14 months ago). I don't mind losing to a better team if we play well but they weren't as good as we can be. We let our standards drop but we will move on from that."

Meanwhile, the York & District Amateur Rugby League have held their presentation evening at South Bank Social Club.

Chairman John Harrison opened the evening by welcoming all and a minute's silence was observed for absent friends and colleagues.
