TITLE-CHASING York Lokomotive ARLC snatched a late penalty to claim a 20-20 draw at Yorkshire League group two leaders Shaw Cross ‘A’.

The Lokos started brightly and took an early six-point lead through a Ben Thompson try from acting half, plus a conversion by stand-off Tom Dunmore.

Shaw Cross scored three tries in quick succession, two converted, to take a lead of 16-6 at the break.

The hosts soon scored a further unconverted try and, with 20 minutes left and title hopes slipping away, the Lokos responded when substitute hooker Tom Gargan showed great power to force his way over. Dunmore converted.

Hard-working second row Jon Cambridge forced a Shaw Cross error, hacked ahead and won a 30-metre six-man race to score just as the ball was about to go out, Dunmore again converting.

With two minutes to go, Dunmore landed an excellent penalty. From the kick off, the Lokos made good ground to gain field position only for the referee to blow for full-time.

The Lokos stars were forwards Fatayi Okotete, Jon Cambridge, Jamie Price and Matty Richardson.

The draw gives the Lokos the opportunity to finish joint-top of the division if they beat Normanton ‘A’ at New Lane tomorrow.
