NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC suffered their first defeat of 2014 as they were dumped out of the Pennine President’s Cup after a 50-0 round two defeat to Wibsey Warriors.

The All Blacks trailed only 14-0 at half-time at White Rose Avenue, but their Bradford foes cut loose in the second period.

The hosts were able to hold out under early pressure from Wibsey, but the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes with an unconverted try.

Wibsey extended their lead with two further tries before the break.

The All Blacks mounted some pressure early in the second half, but were unable to capitalise and Wibsey added a converted try.

Wibsey crossed again on 50 minutes and New Earswick were hit with a further five tries in the last 20 minutes.

The All Blacks man of the match was second rower Reece Blake, backed up by half-back Liam Gargan and centre Luke Morton.

Sherburn Bears opened their Pennine Supplementary Cup campaign with a 12-0 home win over Emley Moor in round one.

The Bears finally broke through the Emley defence on 25 minutes when centre Johnboy Fenwick touched down. Scrum-half Martin Leahy added the extras.

After the break, Sherburn raised their game and Leahy skipped around the Emley full-back to score at the side of the sticks and the scrum-half added the extras.

Sherburn wasted a string of chances to extend their lead and were forced to defend their line for the last ten minutes.

The Yorkshire Laser man of the match was Fenwick. Meanwhile, Selby Warriors’ round one home clash with Brotherton Bulldogs in the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy was postponed.

The Selby second string’s game at Cowling Harlequins was off.
