York's Ross Divorty named in Wales' squad for World Cup opener
YORK-BASED Ross Divorty, a product of New Earswick ARLC and a former York City Knights second-row, is in line for a 12th international cap after being named in Wales’ 19-man squad for their Rugby League World Cup opener.
The Dragons face Italy in the second part of Saturday's double-header at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium (4.30pm), following's England's clash with Australia (2.30pm).
Divorty, who qualifies for Wales through his grandmother, kept his place in the Principality's World Cup party despite missing last autumn's internationals through injury, having been an ever-present in their previous tournament, the 2011 Four Nations.
The 24-year-old, who plays for Championship big guns Halifax while studying at York St John University, is optimistic of a place in the 17 when the final teams are announced, to hit a new high in an international career which began in 2009.
