McNamara wants England to 'excite the nation'
ENGLAND boss Steve McNamara wants his side to “excite the nation” as they kick off their Rugby League World Cup bid at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
McNamara has named four uncapped players in his 19-man squad that will take on favourites Australia in the tournament opener on Saturday (2.30pm).
They are twins George and Thomas Burgess, who are likely to line up alongside brother Sam, Huddersfield forward Brett Ferres, who was drafted into the squad earlier this week after Gareth Hock was sent home, and Wigan second-row Liam Farrell.
England crashed 15-14 to unfancied Italy in their warm-up match last weekend, but McNamara said: “The players have trained well all week and we are ready to take on Australia.
“There is a sense of anticipation and determined resolve among the group. This is what we have been working for over the last few years.
“You sense there is real momentum around the tournament.
“We are excited to be playing at one of the most iconic stadiums in the world and our aim is to put on a performance that excites the nation.”
