Heworth ARLFC lose out to Crosfields
9:29am Monday 23rd September 2013 in Rugby League
ICE-COLD composure was absent again for Heworth ARLFC in their 20-12 National Conference League division three loss to Crosfields.
Had the hosts been more ruthless they could have won.
Crosfields made the first inroad after seven minutes with a try by Ben Thompson, goaled by Jack Reid.
However, just ten minutes later the score was all-square as Dane Weatherill pounced on a missfielded ball to touch down, Adam Caddie adding the extras.
Soon after Thompson scored wide out boosted by a fine conversion from Reid.
A big call was made early in the second half when Crosfields’ Matty Wilson appeared to lose the ball when touching down but the referee allowed the try.
Heworth’s Mark Hayes made a fine break before umloading for Josh Poulter to cross. Caddie’s conversion sliced the deficit to just four points.
But a minute from time David Rolt squeezed over in the corner for the visitors to post a generous winning margin.
For Heworth, Chris Varley, Mike Crossman and Adam Withington all shone with 18-year-olds Poulter and Danny Simpson giving impressive performances.
The game also marked the “official retirement” of veteran prop Terry Reid who, after five years of threatening to quit, confirmed it was his final match.
