York Acorn suffer nilled anguish
10:44am Monday 9th September 2013 in Rugby League
YORK Acorn ARLFC suffered another National Conference premier division away defeat, losing 26-0 in a tough encounter at Egremont.
While competitive in the first period and having sustained pressure playing down the slope, they could not turn field position into points.
The visitors’ cause was also wrecked by Callum Hannigan sustaining a broken shoulder, Kevin Brayshaw a fractured cheekbone and Alan Willetts turning an ankle in the warm-up leaving the Blue and Golds down to the bare bones in the second half.
Egremont took the lead on 16 minutes in a rare home attack, the hosts then holding out until half-time.
Acorn needed to continue in the same vein in the second half but two quick Egremont scores put paid to that.
The Acorn ranks battled hard but with interchange very limited they were always up against it as the big Egremont pack took control.
Adam Endersby turned in another man of the match display with an excellent effort, closely followed by Ash Robson and Tom Hill.
But relegation now looms large with a single defeat in their last three games set to consign them to division one.
There was little joy too for Heworth.
On their division three travels they were beaten 44-10 by Coventry Bears.
