York Lokomotive prepare for season with friendly against Catterick

YORK Lokomotive ARLC have a friendly against Catterick Crusaders on Saturday as they build towards their Yorkshire Men’s League season, which starts on May 4.

The game is at the Lokos’ York RI base in New Lane (2.30pm), and will be followed that evening by a fundraising gentleman’s night.

Liam Watling, who handed coaching reins to John Hough this year as he returns to playing action after long-term injury, said: “Pre-season has been great. We’ve been averaging 30 players at training on Wednesday nights at RI.”

Anyone wanting tickets for the night’s do, costing £15 to include an act, a comedian and a hog roast, can phone Watling on 07792 911606 or pay on the door.

The Lokos, formed as a development summer rugby league club in 2008 as a joint-venture between the York RI sporting club and the old York Groves ARLC, will also be holding a fundraising match against a representative Groves team on Saturday, April 6.

This one-off match, at New Lane, will raise money for Ryan Glynn, a player from Shaw Cross Sharks ARLC, who underwent two operations at the specialist spinal unit in Sheffield on Monday after suffering serious injury in a National Conference League game at the weekend.
