NETBALLERS from Joseph Rowntree School have missed out on the chance to represent the region at next month’s National Schools’ Finals.
The York school’s under-14s team finished third in the Yorkshire and Humberside tournament at Ashville College in Harrogate, having qualified by winning the county round in November.
JoRo made a fantastic start to their campaign in the final round of qualifying, beating Bradford Grammar.
Brilliant shooting from Kelsey Dobson and Amy Storey earned the team a victory over Wolfreton before they were struck by back-toback defeats.
The losses to eventual winners Leeds Grammar and runners-up Sheffield High saw their qualification hopes fade.
Despite that double setback, Joseph Rowntree finished the tournament on a high note.
Superb interceptions from Molly Plews and Alex Richardson secured a good win over North Yorkshire rivals St Aidans.
Hymers College were tough opposition in the next game, but controlled play and great feeds from Meg Kane and Faith Watkinson saw JoRo to a one-goal win.
The team kept their best for last as the final match against Wickersley ended in a 19-1 win, although they were forced to settle for third place.
