Tadcaster Swim Squad in Leeds gala success

A HAUL of 15 medals was won at a stroke by Tadcaster Swim Squad in the City of Leeds Swimming Club ‘B’ grade gala.

The Taddy swimmers took part in 80 races across a range of strokes in the event at the Leeds Aquatic Centre.

Personal best performances were recorded in almost every race and there were seven times fast enough to qualify members for next month’s Yorkshire Championships.

Thomas Carswell recorded Yorkshire qualifying times in winning bronze medals in the 50 metres backstroke and 50m freestyle in the 11/12 years age group.

In the 13/14 years bracket, Oli Hackwell claimed three bronze medals, in the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. The first two were in Yorkshire qualifying times.

There was a silver medal – and Yorkshire time – for Alex Heard in the 50m butterfly in the 11/12 years section.

Harry Souter scooped bronze in the 200m individual medley for 9/10 years. A speeding ticket in the 50m backstroke bagged him a Yorkshire qualifying time.

Emily Ball clocked a Yorkshire qualifying time in the 50m freestyle.

There was a gold medal for Fergus Whittaker in the 50m breaststroke, and he also won silver in the 50m freestyle 9/10 years category.

Chloe Collins was a silver medallist in the 50m breaststroke for 11/12 years, while Katie Spencer, swimming in her first gala, took home a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke for 11/12 years.

Bronze medals were won by Ellie Walker for her efforts in the 10 years 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.

In the 15-plus age group, Charlotte Dobson won silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Other swimmers were Meredith Armstrong, Jemima Browning, Phillipa Caine, Alex Chappell, Benjamin Colling, Ellie Heard, Callum McHenery, Rachael McHenery, Hannah Sharpe, Lily Walker and Max Walker.
