York and Selby U14s aces scoop North Yorkshire Inter-Area Netball crown

UNBEATEN York and Selby under-14s swept to victory in the North Yorkshire Inter-Area Netball Tournament at the University of York.

The York and Selby girls saw off Scarborough/Ryedale, Harrogate/ Craven and Hambleton/Richmond to seal their triumph.

They made a strong start against Scarborough/Ryedale, taking full advantage of every opportunity they had to seal a comprehensive win and a clean sheet.

York and Selby trailed Harrogate/ Craven at half-time of their second game, despite outstanding defence from Rowan Palmour and Megan Coulson. The team excelled in the second half and superb shooting from Amy Storey and Kelsey Dobson helped them to a 9-5 win.

The final game against Hambleton/ Richmond ended in a 6-2 victory and a tournament win for the U14s.

Sophie Reynolds was named player of the tournament for her outstanding contribution in all three games.

There were mixed results for the York and Selby U19s and U16s teams.

The U19s opened up with an 11-4 victory over Scarborough/Ryedale thanks to top shooting from Kelsie Hill and great defence from Elisha Maguire and Sam O’Connor.

Harrogate toppled York and Selby 9-7 in the second match having been a goal down at the interval.

The final match against Hambleton/ Craven ended in an agonising 9-8 defeat for York and Selby, despite a storming display from Amy Taylor, and they had to settle for second place.

The U16s won two of their three matches to also finish second.

They made a slow start against Scarborough/Ryedale but soon began to find their form and captain Holly Murphy made some good interceptions, while Emily Farrow’s shooting was superb.

Defensive duo Kate Chapman and Deni Hancox thwarted Scarborough/ Ryedale as York won 13-6.

York and Selby were 5-5 with Harrogate/Craven at half-time, but unforced errors from York and Selby resulted in an 11-8 defeat.

Catherine Lord was in top form for York and Selby.

The final game against Hambleton saw York and Selby play their best netball en route to a 9-2 victory.

Laura Mullins and Farrow shot well and Rachel Jarman played controlled netball.
