A CRACK quartet of City of York Athletics Club youngsters returned clutching medals from the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield.
The City of York contingent at the English Institute of Sport was magnificently led by golden shot put ace Scott Lincoln.
The 18-year-old won the under-20 title by three metres after a throw of 16.72 metres.
That effort propelled him to number one in the UK rankings at that age group and helped to clinch his first international call-up to represent England at the Celtic Cup later this month.
Paul Wilson, City of York throws coach, said: “He finished last year ranked fourth in the UK and he’s now up to number one. It’s a really good start to the year for him.
“Scott is improving all the time and potentially he could do really well. He’s now been selected for England and I’m delighted for him.”
Also topping the podium for the Huntington Stadium-based club was Ella Eadon, who won the U15s 800 metres by five seconds in an excellent time of two minutes, 23 seconds.
U17 athlete Josh Schofield scooped bronze in the 800m on the second day of competition, 24 hours after finishing fourth in the 1,500m.
Dan Cheeseman matched that bronze medal achievement, coming third in the U20s 1,500m, with club-mate Jack Derham in fifth place.
Ben Wharton was fourth in the U17 shot put, while Becky Tunnicliffe came fifth in the U20 shot with fellow City of York athlete Sarah Parsons seventh in the same event.
Emily Dutton came home seventh in the U17 60m sprint final, while Leah Millard made the semi-finals of the U17 300m and Lucy Hadaway finished seventh in the U15 long jump final.
