TEENAGE shot putter Scott Lincoln is being tipped as a potential star of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
The 18-year-old City of York Athletics Club ace rose to number one in the UK under-20s rankings with a stunning victory in the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield.
Lincoln topped the field with a throw of 16.72 metres – some three metres further than his nearest rival.
That performance was enough to earn Lincoln a first-ever call-up to the England squad for the Celtic Cup in Cardiff on Sunday, January 29.
Next month the youngster will tackle the nation’s best in the UK Indoor Championships in Birmingham, and Lincoln will also be aiming to reach the qualifying mark of 18 metres to win a place in the Great Britain team for the World Junior Championships in Barcelona in July.
City of York throws coach Paul Wilson believes his young charge could go all the way, saying: “If he keep progressing as he has for the next four years, he has got a chance of making the Rio Olympics.
“He has only been doing weights for six months and we only changed his technique in September, so potentially he has got a lot of things on his side.
“He is improving all the time.”
